Chris Elliott made his debut record twice as a way to learn how to write, arrange, perform and record music. Cheap & Salty was handcrafted from his imagination, determination to finish and a lot of late nights.
The Chris Elliott story begins in 1984 at hayhurst grade school in sleepy sw portland, or. the only instrument available to play in 5th grade music class was a fender jazz bass. no one else wanted it. everyone wanted the sax. I wanted the electric bass. years went by before I really started taking playing and singing seriously. high school garage bands, college basement bands, post college coffee shop open mics and live karaokes were all just a way to pass the time. after a move to ny and a regular gig at a friend’s songwriter showcase in Brooklyn the focus on writing and recording started to become much more important. the crowd wants a good song and is happy to pay for a decent recording of it.
Portland-raised and Brooklyn-based, Chris Elliott has independently recorded, produced and released 1 LP and 1 EP. He plays a variety of instruments such as guitar, bass, steel guitar, drums and piano. He also arranges for other instruments and knows others who can play them. He has collaborated with Chris Kimble to engineer, produce, sing and play on his debut record. also independently released thru CD Baby and iTunes. He also has collaborated with filmmakers Tim Hall and Drew Evans to create original scores and soundtracks.
